A couple of years ago, I was getting very frustrated. I had growing readers who were anxious to read, alhamdulillah, but hardly any books for them to read. Living overseas, I have not found libraries like those in the states where we used to go sometimes three times a week.
I spent countless hours searching for online reading material and had come up empty handed.
Then, alhamdulillah, I came across Project Gutenberg, which I think is my all time favorite resource for online reading material. After finding that, it seemed like web sites with free online reading material began coming out of the woodwork when I searched, alhamdulillah.
In hopes of making the search easy for fellow homeschoolers, here is a listing of resources I have found.
Islamic
Talibiddeen Jr. Children's Library
Over 25 original books by TJ.
Islamic poems, stories, and articles.
Quraan Stories
See TJ's Quraan page for a list of some stories from the Quraan.
I was a little bit hesitant to put this on as I try as much as possible to stick to Salafi based sites for Islamic materials, but I absolutely love this site. Several years ago, many of the stories from here were the basis of my homemade reading program as I wanted my children to read Islamic based literature as opposed to fiction. It has pages and pages of Islamic short stories.
As with anything, especially Islamic sources, review the material before presenting to your children.
Do you know of any sites with free authentic Islamic reading material for children?
If so, please let TJ know so I can post the link here.
