Planning and Teaching IS

Part II

Putting it Together when using a syllabus

After getting an idea of what things

are generally taught at a specific level,

you can "simply" find materials/sources

 to match the topics

and develop lessons from them.

You might consider the following types of resources:

Quraan

Ahadith

(Saheeh Muslim, Bukhari, etc)

Lectures:

Audio or transcribed;

on tape, CD or from online

Books

 Magazines, Newspaper articles

(for more contemporary issues)

Yourself

(oral narrations or

make your own materials and  books)

Putting it Together when making your own spine/using books

After picking the spine, I go through and make an outline of the topics or chapters (however the book is arranged). You can "weed" through and leave off the topics that are too mature for your children or that don't seem to apply at the present.

If I am using the Quraan, I might go through the index at the back and pick out topics that I think will be interesting and again “easily digested” by my children--nature and animals are always winners! I have also found that adab related lessons are idea for smaller children and that this is the best time to teach adab. I have found that it is much more difficult to correct bad habits and manners when they get older as opposed to teaching them good habits from the beginning. It takes a lot of hard work, and I haven't perfected this yet...lol, but I still believe this to be the best course)

If I am using something like The Prophet's Prayer Described or Saheeh Muslim, I just list the chapters/sections. Now I have my topics of study outlines.
