How do you know Allah exists? Two part lesson (This lesson comes from a printed document so the formatting is a little off for the web)
If you are asked, “How did you come to know your Lord?” Say, I have come to know my Lord by His signs and His creation.
As far as the proof (of knowing Him by way of His signs) is His statement, ﴿وَمِنْ ءَايَـتِهِ الَّيْلُ وَالنَّهَارُ وَالشَّمْسُ وَالْقَمَرُ﴾ ﴿لاَ تَسْجُدُواْ لِلشَّمْسِ وَلاَ لِلْقَمَرِ وَاسْجُدُواْ لِلَّهِ الَّذِى خَلَقَهُنَّ إِن كُنتُمْ إِيَّاهُ تَعْبُدُونَ﴾
And from among His signs are the night and the day, and the sun and the moon. Prostrate yourselves neither to the sun nor to the moon, rather prostrate yourselves to Allah Who created them, if you (really) worship Him.. [Suratul Fussilaat: 37]
Record: Write the ayaah on a hifz card
Read the Tafsir:
Here Allah reminds His Creation of His Power, and that He is the One Who has no equal, and He is Able to do all things. Allah's saying; ﴿وَمِنْ ءَايَـتِهِ الَّيْلُ وَالنَّهَارُ وَالشَّمْسُ وَالْقَمَرُ﴾ (And from among His signs are the night and the day, and the sun and the moon.) means, He created the night with its darkness and the day with its light, and they alternate without ceasing. And He created the sun with its shining light, and the moon with its reflected light. and He allotted their stages and gave them separate orbits in the heavens, so that by the variations in their movements man may know the stages of night and day, of weeks, months and years, and time periods related to people's rights, acts of worship and various transactions. Moreover, because the sun and moon are the most beautiful of the heavenly bodies that can be seen in both the upper and lower realms, Allah points out that they are created entities which are in a state of enthrallment to Him, subject to His dominion and control. So He says: ﴿لاَ تَسْجُدُواْ لِلشَّمْسِ وَلاَ لِلْقَمَرِ وَاسْجُدُواْ لِلَّهِ الَّذِى خَلَقَهُنَّ إِن كُنتُمْ إِيَّاهُ تَعْبُدُونَ﴾ (Do not prostrate yourselves to the sun nor to the moon, but prostrate yourselves to Allah Who created them, if you (really) worship Him.) meaning, `do not associate anything in worship with Him, for your worship of Him will be of no benefit to you if you worship others alongside Him, because He does not forgive the association of others in worship with Him.' Think About it! (Answer the following questions) From this ayaah, what are some of the ayaat (signs) of Allah? It is useful to know the stages of time (i.e. weeks, days, years) for what purposes? Give an example of each one. What are some other signs of Allah? Look in the Quraan for proofs. List three. Younger Kids: What does it mean to prostrate? Memorize: This ayaah, Fusilaat: 37. Use Study Sheet 3 English: Older students: Fill in the following information and then write each word in a sentence. Word Part of speech as used in the lesson alternate reflected allotted transactions realm prostrate
Vary your sentences by varying the beginnings: Alternate your beginnings between: Who, What, When, Where, and How.
Younger: (sun, moon, night, day, light, week, orbit, sign)
Arabic: Learn/review the following terms in Arabic: sun, moon, week, month, year, time, day, night. You will have dictation on these words at the end of the week, insha Allah. Write the Arabic term for the following words: Sun Moon Week Month Year Day Night time Grammar li- harfu jarr meaning in some cases "for". It makes the word behind it have a kasrah (majrur) min: among the many meanings is "from." IT also makes the word behind it have a kasrah. The word following these words in a sentence is a noun (ism) Locate these words (li and min in the Arabic text (proof/ayaah). Note the kasrah on the word behind it. Find 5 other occurrences (each) of these two words in the Quran (Tip: start with surahs that you already know). Write the harfu jarr and the word that comes after it. Notice the ending vowel (kasrah)
Activity: Make a poster showing the ayaat of Allah mentioned in this surah. Write the ayaat and translation on your poster (younger kids can have parents write the ayaat written for them or written for them to trace; younger kids can also label the signs, (i.e. sun, moon, etc)
How Did You Come to Know Your Lord? I have come to know my Lord by His signs and His creation. The Proof: ﴿وَمِنْ ءَايَـتِهِ الَّيْلُ وَالنَّهَارُ وَالشَّمْسُ وَالْقَمَرُ﴾ ﴿لاَ تَسْجُدُواْ لِلشَّمْسِ وَلاَ لِلْقَمَرِ وَاسْجُدُواْ لِلَّهِ الَّذِى خَلَقَهُنَّ إِن كُنتُمْ إِيَّاهُ تَعْبُدُونَ﴾

How did you come to know your Lord?Part II
Knowing Allah by His Creation—Proof 2.
Indeed, your Lord is Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth in six days, and then rose over the Throne (in a manner that suits His Majesty). He brings the night as a cover over the day, seeking it rapidly, and (He created) the sun, the moon, the stars, subjected to His command. Surely, His is the creation and commandment. Blessed is Allah, the Lord of mankind, jinn and all that exists. [Suratul A.raaf: 54]
